Crunchyroll Announces Two-Part ‘Solo Leveling’ Documentary

Solo Leveling, the eagerly awaited anime of 2024, has lived up to and exceeded the high expectations set by its fans.

The anime’s first season, comprising 24 episodes, brings exhilarating news for its audience. With the first half of the season airing weekly, followed by a three-month hiatus before releasing the remaining episodes, the release schedule of Solo Leveling is unique. This structure ensures a year-long engagement with the anime, starting from its debut on 6 January 2024.

Beyond the enthralling adaptation, fans are treated to a bonus: a two-part documentary titled The Leveling of Solo Leveling, exploring the anime’s journey from a Webtoon to the screen, including the creative process and global premieres.

Crunchyroll, in collaboration with Paris-based production company Allso, takes the helm in producing the documentary, which has been shot across Japan and South Korea. Featuring over 20 interviews, including fan insights, The Leveling of Solo Leveling is set to be a comprehensive look at the making of the anime.

The documentary’s first episode will take viewers to South Korea to meet with D&C Media and Redice studio, providing insights into Solo Leveling‘s inception. The second episode will shift focus to Japan, where Aniplex, A-1 Pictures, and Crunchyroll discuss elevating Solo Leveling to greater heights.

Solo Leveling‘s story, centered on Sung Jinwoo, a low-ranked hunter, unfolds in a world where human warriors who possess special abilities must battle deadly monsters to protect mankind from annihilation. Directed by Shunsuke Nakashige (Sword Art Online) and featuring music by Hiroyuki Sawano (Attack on Titan, Seraph of the End), the anime boasts a strong creative team.

The opening theme song, ‘LEveL’, performed by TOMORROW X TOGETHER and Hiroyuki Sawano, adds to the anime’s allure. The manhwa, inspiring not only the anime but also a potential Korean live-action adaptation, concluded in December 2021, marking the end of an era and the beginning of a new chapter with this anime adaptation.
