Critical Role’s ‘Mighty Nein’ Animated Series Is In Production

As The Legend of Vox Machina gears up for its third season, that’s not the only surprise Critical Role has in store, revealing that the Mighty Nein animated series based on its second campaign was in production. A Mighty Nein animated series was first announced in 2023, as part of an animated series and first-look film deal between Amazon Prime Video and Critical Role.

Recording on the series has begun, and could see a 2025 release, following Season 3 of The Legend of Vox Machina’s release in October 2024. No release date has been announced yet, but the news marks a significant development for the show. Currently, tie-in graphic novels have been released, fleshing out the Mighty Nein’s story, with more in store for the second campaign, which recently had a reunion stream.

Critical Role, one of the most iconic Dungeons & Dragons live-play games streamed on YouTube, brings together professional voice actors to play the famed tabletop roleplaying game, with two finished campaigns, and a third underway.

Its second campaign is set in Wildemount, a continent in conflict between the dictatorial Dwendalian Empire and the mysterious Kryn Dynasty, and its characters soon find themselves at the heart of a political conspiracy, starring Laura Bailey, Taliesin Jaffe, Ashley Johnson, Liam O’Brien, Marisha Ray, Sam Riegel, Travis Willingham and Dungeon Master Matthew Mercer.

The Mighty Nein animated series will premiere on Amazon Prime Video.
