‘Clair Obscur: Expedition 33’ Adds Fan-Requested Option To Retry Tough Boss Fights

Sandfall Interactive has released a new update for its game-of-the-year contender, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, adding a fan-requested Battle Retry Prompt option that allows players to quickly retry tough battles without returning to the last save point.

According to the developer, this feature was one of its “most requested” quality-of-life improvements, and adds a pop-up window after defeat, allowing players to instantly retry the battle.

Currently, defeat results in players returning to a previous save point, which admittedly isn’t too much of a hassle for most major boss fights, as a save point is often placed near the arenas, but for tougher battles that occur while exploring the world, failure can sometimes lead to being transported back to save points that can be quite a distance away, forcing players to undergo a lengthy trek back to the point where they fell.

Apart from the new Battle Retry Prompt, the new update also adds other minor quality-of-life tweaks, including clearer Lumino cost displays in the Pictos menu for “better planning”, an optional autoplay feature for dialogues outside cutscenes, and separate volume sliders to independently adjust the volume for exploration and combat phases.

The patch will also introduce a host of fixes to combat, achievements and exploration, alongside the addition of frame generation and low latency mode support for both DLSS and XeSS on supported PCs. The full changelist for patch 1.4.0 can be found here.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33’s latest update is now live, and by adding such fan-requested features, further cements the title as one of the most impressive sleeper hits this year, hitting an impressive 2 million sales milestone just 12 days after its launch on 24 April, and will certainly be a strong contender for numerous honours at The Game Awards this year.
