AMD Announces Budget Radeon RX 6500 XT GPU That Will Test Its Ability To Keep Up With Demand

The Radeon RX 6500 XT is AMD‘s new desktop GPU that will probably be out of stock minutes after it’s released. Announced over CES 2022, this graphics card will be launching on 19 January and priced at US$199.

This makes the Radeon RX 6500 XT an affordable GPU, a budget version of the 6000 series that first launched in 2020. It will likely be highly in demand. Given the shortage of graphics cards in 2021, it is as yet uncertain whether AMD will be able to keep up with the level of demand.

AMD showed off the Radeon RX 6500 XT’s 2.6GHz Game Clock, which it claimed to be “the fastest sustained GPU clock rates ever”. It also features 16 compute units with ray accelerators and 16MB of infinity cache, which is lower than the 32 to 80 compute units and 32MB to 128MB of infinity cache that other GPUs in the 6000 series boast. However, according to AMD, the Radeon RX 6500 XT should still be able to provide frame rate boosts of 23 to 59% over the RX 570 while running games at 1080p.

This follows their RX 6600 which was just released a few months back –

It remains to be seen, however, if AMD is able to sort out its production issues and supply a sufficient volume of GPUs.
