The tail end of August can only mean one thing for gamers around the globe, with Gamescom 2023 finally upon us. Before the big show kicks off, there’s still the small matter of Opening Night Live, bringing with it plenty of new trailers and reveals of games that will keep everyone excited for some time.

For those that did not have the time or energy to catch the live broadcast, fret not, for we are here to round up all the awesome gaming news coming out of the Gamescom 2023 Opening Night Live for your convenience.

Gamescom 2023 Opening Night Live Recap

Black Myth: Wukong

The game that many can’t wait to get their hands on, Black Myth: Wukong returns to Opening Night Live as part of the proceedings for Gamescom 2023, and impressed yet again with a new trailer full of high-impact action and terrifying enemies.

Little Nightmares 3

With Supermassive Games at the helm, the horror franchise that continues with Little Nightmares 3 will now have cooperative gameplay for the very first time. Expect to face up to your fears with a partner this time around.

Alan Wake 2

While it may have closed out the show, Alan Wake 2 definitely spiced things up with its spooky new trailer that combined live-action sequences with gameplay. New York City never looked more dangerous than in this upcoming horror adventure.

Starfield

With Starfield launching in just over a week’s time, it makes perfect sense to keep the hype going. Composer Inon Zur was on hand to play one of the game’s tracks live, leading into a new live-action trailer teasing the spacefaring awesomeness that awaits.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage

One of the more highly anticipated releases in 2023, Assassin’s Creed Mirage appeared at Opening Night Live of Gamescom 2023 with a new trailer focusing on the intricate details of the Middle East setting that players will soon set foot in.

Tekken 8

Fighting game fans can rejoice further when 2024 rolls around, as Bandai Namco revealed that the exciting Tekken 8 will be released on 26 January next year on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. A preview of the game’s single-player mode was also shown during the trailer.

Mortal Kombat 1

Continuing the fun of bashing up your opponents, Ed Boon helped introduce more characters that will be part of the roster in Mortal Kombat 1. The arrival of General Shao Kahn, Sindel, Motaro, and Shujinko bolsters an already stacked list.

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty

While the launch was less than ideal, CD Projekt Red is powering ahead with the Cyberpunk 2077 expansion, Phantom Liberty. A new trailer at Gamescom 2023 Opening Night Live debuted more weapons, car combat, and the tweaked gameplay loop.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3

Before its November launch, a new trailer for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 showed off the first mission of the FPS, which contained plenty of stealth and combat to keep fans happy for now.

Sonic Frontiers

A free content update will soon arrive for Sonic Frontiers, which will bring a new story, new playable characters, and new challenges via The Final Horizon DLC.

Sonic Superstars

Continue the love for the blue blur, Sonic Superstars is now confirmed for a 17 October release, with players able to enjoy the classics together with friends and family.

Crimson Desert

The action RPG gets a brand new gameplay deep dive that shows off more of what players can get up to, including its combat and minigames, at Opening Night Live.

Killing Floor 3

Full of guts and gore, the Killing Floor 3 trailer is giving players a taste of exactly what they crave, with the launch set for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC in the future.

Rebel Moon

A surprise inclusion that is not exactly related to video games, director Zack Snyder was on stage to show off a new trailer for his sci-fi epic, Rebel Moon.

Age of Empires 4

Finally, players on Xbox Series X|S can experience the RTS action of Age of Empires 4, which is available now via Xbox Game Pass. Check out the overhauled control system and see how this legendary series fares on the console.

Nightingale

The survival-crafting experience that is Nightingale from Inflexion Games will now be headed to Early Access on PC via both Steam and the Epic Games Store in February 2024, as revealed at Gamescom 2023 Opening Night Live.

Payday 3

For those looking forward to heisting in Payday 3, celebrity Ice T was on hand to share that he will be part of the game in a special mission, which can be played when the game launches on 21 September.

Zenless Zone Zero

Developers miHoYo joined the festivities at Opening Night Live with a new trailer for Zenless Zone Zero, with an extended look at the various characters and combat in the game.

Honkai Star Rail

More content is on the way to this free-to-play RPG, together with the new five-star character Fu Xuan. Those on the PS5 can also try out the technical test ahead of the game’s launch on the platform.

The First Descendant

Nexon’s shooter will soon kick off a new cross-play beta in September, with more folks expected to get a taste of its cinematic combat that is powered by Unreal Engine 5.

Stormgate

If you love real-time strategy games, then Stormgate is certainly something to look forward to. With sci-fi armies going up against demons, what’s not to like about this throwback to the games of yesteryear?

Granblue Fantasy: Relink

The release date has finally been nailed down, Cygames’ Granblue Fantasy: Relink will arrive on PC, PS4, and PS5 this coming February 1.

Expeditions: A MudRunner Game

A new spin-off of the MudRunner experience, this will target players who are more into upgrading their vehicle of choice and exploring the world.
