Battle For The Headphone Throne: Sonos Ace Vs Sony WH-1000XM5

The Sony WH-1000XM5 wireless headphones have established itself as the leader of the noise-cancelling pack, but the Sonos Ace presents another alternative for those willing to pay a premium. At S$699, it comes in at almost S$100 more than the former, but touts additional appeal in the form of seamless soundbar integration.

This joins other notable features in its arsenal, including active noise cancellation (ANC) capabilities, a 30-hour battery life with ANC enabled, ultra quick charging, and head-tracking Dolby Atmos spatial audio.

Meanwhile, the comfort department marries plush memory foam ear cups and a vegan leather finish with reduced clamping force, bringing a welcome ergonomic touch to the portable, lightweight build of the Sonos Ace. A slim carrying case means it can be easily carried around, proving handy for travelling.

Audio quality, however, is still king for users. While it does deliver on that front, the headset also comes with its fair share of drawbacks that deducts some points from its all-around functionality, especially for audiophiles.

Check out how it fares against the Sony WH-1000XM5 in the above video, and if it’s worth the hefty price tag. For those who are keen to own a pair of the Sonos Ace, it’ll be available starting 5 June.
