James Cameron’s ‘Avatar’ Returns To Theatres In 4K HDR, Removed From Disney+

13 years after taking the world by storm and becoming a global phenomenon, James Cameron’s Avatar is returning to theatres ahead of its anticipated sequel’s release in December.

Fans can catch Avatar once more when it shows in theatres starting 23 September. This time, fans can catch it in a stunning 4K high dynamic range and immerse themselves in Pandora’s beautiful imagery.

This news comes after the film’s sudden removal from Disney+ earlier this month.

A new trailer announcing the movie’s return was also released on the official Avatar YouTube page. The trailer revealed some classic imagery from the film in its new upgraded look showcasing the deep and vibrant colours that the film will have in its new 4K upgrade.

It also showcased a montage of Pandora and footage of Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) exploring the world in his avatar body. After a brief action montage, the trailer ends with Jake and Neytiri, played by Zoe Saldaña, saying “I see you,” to each other.

Alongside the release of the trailer, a new poster for the film has also been revealed which features a highly-detailed closeup of Neytiri ready for battle

The re-release comes with the hype for the highly anticipated sequel, Avatar: The Way of Water – a film Cameron has bravely compared to Lord of the Rings.

Disney’s official synopsis for the long-awaited sequel reads:

“Set more than a decade after the events of the first film, Avatar: The Way of Water begins to tell the story of the Sully family, the trouble that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive and the tragedies they endure.”

Avatar comes back to theatres in all formats on 23 September, whereas Avatar: The Way of Water will make its splashing premiere on 15 December.
