ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 Will Turn Heads With Its Unique AniMe Matrix LED Display

Personalisation is often a feature many people look for in the items they buy.

This can be seen with ASUS’s Aura Sync – gamers wanted to be able to express their personality through their laptops. Why play on green backlit keys when red might be your favourite colour after all.

Knowing how much their customers like customising their own products, ROG took things a step further by letting their customers personalise their own laptops. And it is not just a one-time customisation. You will be able to customise the design on your laptop as and when you want to.

Don’t believe us?

Say hello to the ASUS Republic of Gamer (ROG) Zephyrus G14 gaming laptop which lets you customise the lid of your laptop to your personal style thanks to its new AniMe Matrix LED Display.

The G14’s AniMe Matrix LED Display makes use of over 1,000 mini LED to allow their users to customise their laptops according to their own unique styles.

Want to have your name flash across the lid whenever you are using your laptop? It is definitely possible.

Want to show off an image of your favourite game or cartoon character? Say no more.

Though the AniMe Matrix LED Display might feel like a bit of a gimmick, trust us, once you’ve seen your first word or image displayed on the lid, you’ll be excited to try displaying more gifs and images on the screen.

For those worried if the LED display will drain a lot of your battery, the laptop is configured to automatically switch off the LED display when you are not plugged into a power source. Hence you won’t need to worry about it needlessly draining your battery whilst on the go.

According to ASUS, the LED display will drain 20% of your battery after continuous use.

On the other hand, you can toggle the display such that the LED is permanently on regardless of whether or not you are charging the laptop, if that is what you prefer.

Aside from being the world’s first to carry the AniMe Matrix LED Display, the ultraslim and portable Zephyrus G14 is also ROG’ first 14-inch gaming laptop and according to ASUS, it is the most powerful gaming laptop in an ultraslim 14-inch form factor.

The Zephyrus G14 comes with the new AMD Ryzen 4000 series CPU, and is capable of carrying up to an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 GPU, 32GB of fast DDR4-3200 RAM and up to 1TB of NVMe SSD.

Meanwhile, the display on the G14 is capable of providing graphics in WQHD (2560 x 1440 pixel resolution) at 60Hz or Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixel resolution) at 120Hz. Couple that with AMD FreeSync technology that helps to eliminate screen tearing plus stuttering and you have a laptop that is suitable for both gaming and content creation.

As mentioned, the 14-inch G14 is very portable, and is only 17.9mm thin and 1.6kg. Its 6.9mm bezels also help to give it a screen to body ratio of 85%, Making it extremely easy to carry around. Plus, with its battery that is capable of running for more than 10 hours on a full charge and the ability to charge from compatible Type-C power packs, the G14 is one extremely portable gaming device.

Keeping an ultraslim chassis cool can be difficult thanks to how little room there is left in the laptop but ROG has included exclusive features for the G14 that helps to solve the issue. Firstly, it comes with the ErgoLift hinge that we have previously seen on the ZenBook Pro Duo though the G14 will be the first ROG laptop to feature the hinge, as well as unique rear exhausts and heatsink fins which help to direct both away from the bezels and towards the vents cut into it.

The fans also come with self-cleaning cooling which helps to avoid the accumulation of dust in the fans which can end up compromising performance and stability of the cooling fans over time.
