Assassin’s Creed Unity Now Free On PC As Ubisoft Donates €500K To Aid Notre-Dame

In a week of darkness and despair, humanity showed its best side.

Earlier this week, the iconic Notre-Dame de Paris was damaged as part of a devastating fire that very nearly razed it to the ground. Many were distraught at the current state of the beautiful cathedral in the French capital, which had been standing strong for over 800 years.

Since the flames have been doused, many have begun contributing to the restoration of the Notre-Dame, including the gaming community. Most notably, the folks at Ubisoft have stepped up their efforts to aid in the reparation and restoration of the Notre-Dame, donating a generous amount of €500,000, as announced in a statement on their site.

Furthermore, they have also made their 2014 title Assassin’s Creed Unity free on Uplay on PC as part of their kind gesture.

Unity was set during the French Revolution, specifically in Paris. Ubisoft spent an extensive amount of time recreating each iconic landmark in the capital, block-for-block — the Notre-Dame included — so this was a touch of class by the developer/publisher.

“Video games can enable us to explore places in ways we never could have otherwise imagined,” read the statement. “We hope, with this small gesture, we can provide everyone an opportunity to appreciate our virtual homage to this monumental piece of architecture.”

This week was indeed a dark one for many, but it was made a little lighter thanks to the kindness and generosity of companies like Ubisoft.
