Following the recent news of Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ delay to March, Ubisoft has reportedly leaked the game’s first downloadable content (DLC) expansion, titled Claws of Awaji.
As reported by Insider Gaming, the leak appeared on the game’s Steam page while being updated to reflect its delay in release date. The description, which has since been removed, read, “Pre-purchase now to get a bonus mission and the upcoming Claws of Awaji expansion. Travel to a new region, get over 10 hours of additional content, and unlock a new weapon type, new skills, gear, and abilities.”

While it might seem strange for Ubisoft to bundle in an entire expansion as a pre-order bonus instead of its usual Season Pass system, the studio recently cancelled the game’s Season Pass, alongside priced early access plans and a Collector’s Edition price drop last year. Due to this, Ubisoft may be shaking things up and making the expansion free for all players who pre-order the game, especially considering the underperformance of their previous games like Star Wars Outlaws.
Although further details of the DLC remain under wraps, we do know the identity of the “new region” mentioned, according to the now-removed Collector’s Edition trailer video, which showed off a still of the game’s world map, detailing nine regions alongside a small island to the South that was left blank. This is likely Awaji Island and the possible location of the DLC.
In any case, full details of the upcoming expansion are bound to be released sooner or later, although the wait will be longer than expected due to Ubisoft’s sudden delay of the game by one month, citing reasons of needing to ” implement feedback and ensure an even more ambitious and engaging day-one experience”. Assassin’s Creed Shadows now launches on 20 March 2025 for the PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
