Look up students, this one’s for you.

Apple has updated its popular 9.7-inch iPad for Apple Pencil compatibility, and with even better performance. The new iPad features a Retina display, the latest A10 Fusion chip and advanced sensors, including a gyroscope and accelerometer for accurate motion tracking, designed to support the next generation of AR apps.

And best of all? Enhanced battery life.

“iPad is our vision for the future of computing and hundreds of millions of people around the world use it every day at work, in school and for play. This new 9.7-inch iPad takes everything people love about our most popular iPad and makes it even better for inspiring creativity and learning,” said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s vice president of Product Marketing.

With its fluid, natural drawing and writing experience, the Apple Pencil and iPad combo works as a natural pen and paper concept, which is why the company is offering schools a discount on it.

The new iPad is available to order today, and will start shipping and be available in stores later this week in over 25 countries, including Singapore.

While it retails from S$498, with the Apple Pencil going for $138, schools can purchase the iPad starting from S$468, and Apple Pencil for S$125.

Apple also announced Everyone Can Create, a new curriculum to help better integrate technology into the classroom.

Everyone Can Create is a range of free learning resources and teaching guides – this includes teacher and student guides and lessons, providing creative ways for teachers to use technology to its full advantage in the classroom.

To go with this, there’s a new app to help teachers personalise their teaching. Schoolwork allows teachers to create assignments, view student progress, and bring the power of apps to the classroom in exciting new ways. Schoolwork features Handouts, a way to manage assignments with almost any kind of content.

This app enables teachers to assign specific activities within certain apps, and direct students to that particular part of the app. Apps such as Nearpod, Tynker and Kahoot are already working to support Schoolwork.

Powered by iOS 11, the updated operating system also introduces powerful new features for the device. The Dock provides quick access to frequently used apps and documents from any screen, and makes it easier to multitask with Split View and Slide Over. Drag and Drop makes moving images, text and files between apps easier than ever.

It is available in silver, space gray and a new gold finish and starts at an Apple retail price of S$498 for the 32GB with Wi-Fi model and S$698 for the 32GB Wi-Fi +.
