‘Alien’ Survival Horror Game In The Works At Eidos Montreal, Sigourney Weaver Eyed For Role

Eidos Montreal, the studio behind the 2011 Deus Ex reboot franchise and 2021’s Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, is developing a new game based on the Alien sci-fi horror franchise.

Alien Isolation (2014)

As reported by Insider Gaming, the title will be a single-player arcade survival horror game where players will try to survive aboard a decaying space station. Described as “Shadow of Tomb Raider with xenomorphs” in its current stage, the game will reportedly learn from Eidos’ 2018 reboot threequel and consist of a mix of combat, platforming, and puzzles.

Faced with both xenomorphs and spec ops units, the Alien game will see players relying on stealth, resource management and logic to overcome its many challenges, ranging from puzzles like repairing machinery and cracking codes to facing off against enemies in combat with “AI designed to adapt and react to whatever tactics you use”.

Aliens: Fireteam Elite (2021)

According to documents cited from Insider Gaming’s sources, the game will feature at least three characters, with the main protagonist, Aubrey, being an engineer who can use items like grappling hooks and magnetic boots to traverse the environment, with the title’s antagonist reportedly being a character named Ryuzo, who uses the space station as his fortress. Finally, there’s Ripley 8, a clone of Ellen Ripley from the Alien film franchise, famously portrayed by Sigourney Weaver. According to sources, Weaver is being eyed to reprise her role, but only a first approach has been made with no confirmation as of yet.

The Alien game has been in the works since 2020 and has had a rather troubling development process, switching between multiple studios such as the No More Heroes franchise’s Grasshopper Manufacture under a variety of codenames, including “Marathon“, and the project was though to be dead for a few years now. Based on recent documents from earlier in the year, the game is reportedly back in development at Eidos, with a budget of around US$75 million.

Sigourney Weaver in Alien Isolation’s DLC

The Alien game is reportedly still in its very early stages of development, with a planned release of 2028 for “all major platforms”.
