Grand Theft Auto VI, perhaps the most anticipated game of the past few years, is making headlines once more by unveiling an eye-watering US$400 collector’s edition that includes a whole bunch of themed merchandise, but doesn’t actually come with the game itself.
Named The Goodtime State – Vice City Collection, the collector’s set includes a range of collectibles and merchandise themed after Macca the Gator, the hit TV show of the game’s fictional setting of Leonida. The set is already available for pre-order through Rockstar’s website (although it doesn’t seem to be available in Singapore) and will release on the same day as Grand Theft Auto VI’s launch, with the full list of items included as follows:
- 6” figure of Macca the Gator with stash compartment
- Matte black GTAVI Oakley Frogskins sunglasses with Prizm Sapphire lenses
- New Era 9FORTY A-Frame snapback hat with Vice City Leonida embellishments
- Macca the Gator magnetic mirror
- Vice City swizzle spoon
- Vice City razor blade keychain
- Leonida Keys crossbody bag
- Chunkee the Manatee shot glass
- Leonida Keys enamel pin set in a custom metal tin
- Premium stickers in a stash bag
- Double-sided souvenir poster showcasing the full Leonida landscape
It’s easy to see why the set is so expensive, as certain items are made in partnership with major brands like Oakley and New Era, meaning these would likely be more than cheap gimmicky items, but rather actual usable accessories. Taking into consideration the sheer hype surrounding the game’s launch, it’s likely that the collector’s set would sell out rather quickly, no doubt by scalpers looking to resell them at ludicrous prices.
One must also address the elephant in the room – the fact that fans will be shelling out hundreds of dollars and they won’t even receive a copy of Grand Theft Auto VI. Granted, Rockstar isn’t the first studio to push out collector’s editions that don’t include the game, as we have seen other companies do the same, such as Bungie’s Marathon Collector’s Edition or 2K Games’ Borderlands 4 ECHO-4 Bundle, but to charge US$400 for a bunch of branded goods and not any substantial game statue or artbook might be quite a big ask, especially since most other companies usually charge less than US$200 for their collector’s editions.
Grand Theft Auto VI and The Goodtime State – Vice City Collection will both launch on 19 November 2026.
