Vampire RPG ‘The Blood of Dawnwalker’ Sinks Teeth Into 1M Sales Milestone In 3 Days

Time may be Coen’s enemy in The Blood of Dawnwalker, but it only favours developer Rebel Wolves. Three days after its release, the Polish-based studio and publisher Bandai Namco Entertainment announced that the vampire action-RPG has surpassed one million copies sold globally.

“Thank you for playing, sharing, and being part of the community,” reads the celebratory post on X/Twitter. In a repost, creative director Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz further expressed his gratitude to players: “Surreal. Thank you so much! 🔥🙏”

While achieving the milestone in such a short time is impressive in itself, it’s particularly significant for the team. In addition to being its first major release since its founding in 2022, the game is also a new original work, and plans are already in place to expand the universe. Per SteamDB, it hit an all-time concurrent peak of 78,188 over the weekend, with over 25,000 in-game players at the time of writing — no small feat for a single-player title.

Part of its popularity can be attributed to the studio’s population of former CD Projekt Red employees, including founder Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, who served as director and co-director on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Cyberpunk 2077, respectively. The other half stems from unique mechanics that bring a twist to the traditional RPG experience, such as dual play styles, a narrative sandbox structure, the term used to describe its non-linear course of events shaped by decisions made along the way, a 30-day time limit, directional combat in the vein (hah) of Kingdom Come: Deliverance, and more.

The official synopsis reads, “The Blood of Dawnwalker is an open-world dark fantasy action RPG set in 14th-century Europe. You play as Coen, human by day and vampire by night, fighting to save your family in a story shaped by your actions and the secrets you uncover.” That’s easier said than done, because Coen will be forced to kill off major NPCs in vampire form if players don’t keep an eye on and manage his hunger pangs. Fun!
