The Fate franchise has spawned plenty of works over the years, including light novels, manga, video games, and various anime series that are connected through a multiverse, but Fate/strange Fake has one of the more interesting origin stories. The spin-off grew from an April Fool’s joke, published as a story titled Fake/states night, to a full-fledged light novel series before getting an anime adaptation earlier this January.
Following a “To be continued” message in the final episode, a second season has been announced for the show, with the teaser visual featuring the tagline, “Rise Against the Rules.” No additional details were shared, but it’s safe to assume that Kana Hanazawa and Yuki Ono will reprise their roles as Ayaka Sajyo and Saber, respectively, who join Sigma as featured characters.
Based on Ryohogo Narita’s story, Fate/strange Fake was directed by Shun Enokido and Takahito Sakazume at A-1 Pictures, after the release of the prologue chapter, Whispers of Dawn, in July 2023. Daisuke Daito (Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045) wrote the script, while Hiroyuki Sawano (Attack on Titan) served as composer. The latter is also credited for the opening theme song, “Provant”, performed by Jean-Ken Johnny and TAKUMA.
The official description for the series reads, “Years after the Fifth Holy Grail War in Japan, rumours begin to circulate that point to the emergence of a new Holy Grail in America. Masters and Servants gather in the city of Snowfield as a battleground begins to take shape. The curtains rise as humanity and its heroes take the stage, all while secrets and shadows precede another Holy Grail War.”
Season 2 of the anime has no release date.
