Ryu Clashes With CGI Blanka In Explosive ‘Street Fighter’ Movie Clip

Paramount Pictures and Legendary’s upcoming Street Fighter movie has received a special look trailer, teasing a fight scene between main hero Ryu (Andrew Koji) and the clearest look at Jason Momoa’s CGI-heavy Blanka yet.

The minute-long clip kicks off with Ryu being forced into a fighting arena by the evil dictator, M. Bison (David Dastmalchian). Off-screen, a hulking creature is then dragged to the ring in chains by multiple henchmen, and it’s revealed to be none other than the green-skinned feral man, Blanka.

Things quickly go sideways for said henchmen, as they are flung all around the arena, with one getting hit by Blanka’s iconic fighting move from the games, his Electric Thunder attack, leading to the X-ray skeleton visual effect fans would no doubt recognise. The references to the games continue in quick succession, with Blanka pulling off other notable moves like his Rolling Attack and dropkick.

At first, Ryu pleads with Blanka that he doesn’t want to fight, but after the monster refuses to back down, he then charges up perhaps his most iconic move of all, the Hadouken, which blows up an entire wall of the arena, seemingly providing an opening for his escape.

While brief, the clip provides our clearest look at Blanka in action, and unsurprisingly, leans heavily on CGI. While Momoa’s version of the character seems more intelligent than the character’s usual mindless portrayal in the games, the VFX, specifically regarding his movements, do feel slightly off and make the character stand out unnaturally amidst the other actual actors. It will also be interesting to see how big of a role Blanka will play, or if his appearance in the show is limited to just this one fight scene.

Directed by Kitao Sakurai (Bad Trip), Street Fighter centres on Noah Centineo’s Ken Masters and Koji’s Ryu, with the pair reconnecting years after a falling out thanks to Callina Liang’s Chun-Li, who is rounding up fighters for the World Warrior Tournament. The film will also star Roman Reigns as Akuma, Cody Rhodes as Guile, Vidyut Jammwal as Dhalsim, Curtis ‘50 Cent’ Jackson as Balrog, Orville Peck as Vega, Hirooki Goto as E. Honda, and Mel Jarnson as Cammy. The film is set to launch on 16 October 2026.
