Spider-Man’s Brand New Day has started, and as we follow our favourite web-slinger (Tom Holland) who’s now running solo across New York City, since his best friend Ned Leeds (Jacob Batalon) and girlfriend MJ (Zendaya) have forgotten all about Peter Parker, we watch him interact with some of New York’s finest, in the form of Bruce Banner aka Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) and Frank Castle aka The Punisher (Jon Bernthal).
But once you get to the end of the movie, the question is, has Sony and Marvel kept up with the post credit scenes that the Marvel Cinematic Universe is so known for?
The answer is yes but the bad news is, there’s only one and it’s animated.
In the film, Ned has developed a Spider Tracker (check out the video below to have an idea) that crowd sources the location of the wall crawler and at the end, we see the app identify Spider-Man via an icon, as the app pulls away from Spidey being in New York… to being in the United Stated… to suddenly being on Earth… before the icon moves away from Earth into an unknown location in space.
Where in space? It doesn’t say as the text, Spider-Man Will Return, before it cuts to black.
So there are two way of reading this. The literal one is Spidey, who hasn’t been revealed as part of the cast for Avengers: Doomsday, will be offworld and potentially on another planet. It could be Battleworld, the patchwork planet cobbled from remnant realities after the collapse of the Marvel Comics Multiverse, which is expected to be the focus of Avengers: Secret Wars.
Or, it could be that Spidey is no longer on the MCU 616 Earth and has traveled to another reality that’s not on the planet, hence the shift of the icon away from the planet.
