First Look At Lex Luthor’s Warsuit For ‘Superman’ Sequel

Director James Gunn has unveiled the first look at Lex Luthor’s iconic powersuit in his Superman sequel, with production on the superhero follow-up now underway.

“Fit check. Live from the set of Man of Tomorrow,” wrote Gunn in a post on his social media page, which shows off the futuristic green powersuit that will be worn by Nicholas Hoult’s Lex in the sequel due out in theatres on 9 July 2027. Based on the image, it seems that Lex won’t stay in prison for too long following the events of 2025’s Superman, and the sandy backdrop does hint that his conflict with David Corenswet’s Superman might take them off-world to an uncharted planet.

In the comics, Lex builds these powerful high-tech suits to provide him with superhuman strength or flight capabilities, among other impressive weaponry, all to level the playing field with Superman. For the sequel, Man of Tomorrow, it remains to be seen if Lex will don this suit to battle Superman, or the movie’s other main villain, Lars Eidinger’s intergalactic foe Brainiac, so hopefully we’ll see some mech-on-cyborg action.

Superman (2025)

Gunn will return to the director’s chair for the Superman sequel, with the film also seeing the return of familiar faces like Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern member Guy Gardner and Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific. The sequel will also mark the big screen appearance of Aaron Pierre’s Green Lantern member John Stewart, following the HBO series Lanterns, alongside Milly Alcock’s Kara Zor-El, who will headline the upcoming Supergirl movie.
