‘Fast Forever’, Next ‘Fast & Furious’ Film, Revvs Up For 2028 Release

It’s one more quarter mile for Dominic Toretto and his family. Universal has firmed up the release date for the next Fast & Furious movie, now titled Fast Forever, but it will take some time to hit the road.

The forthcoming sequel in the racing series is set to drift into cinemas on 17 March 2028, with the news coming by way of franchise star and producer Vin Diesel, who shared a photo of himself with late co-star Paul Walker on Instagram.

“No one said the road would be easy… but it’s ours. One that has defined us and become our legacy… And a legacy… lasts forever,” reads the accompanying caption.

No other details were announced, including story specifics, staff, or cast, and it’s unclear if Louis Leterrier, who replaced Justin Lin as director on Fast X, remains at the helm. However, it’s safe to assume that legacy cast members Michelle Rodriguez, who plays Dominic’s wife Letty Ortiz, Tyrese Gibson (Roman Pearce), Ludacris (Tej Parker), Nathalie Emmanuel (Ramsey), Sung Kang (Han Lue), Jordana Brewster (Mia Toretto), Jason Statham (Deckard Shaw), and Charlize Theron (Cipher) will all reprise their roles.

Fast Forever was originally slated for release last spring, but subsequent delays widened the gap between it and Fast X to five years — the longest since the series debuted in 2001. The mainline instalments, alongside the spin-off feature Hobbs & Shaw, have collected over US$7 billion at the box office and spawned an animated series that ran from 2019 to 2021.

The events of the last outing, which introduced Jason Momoa as primary antagonist Dante Reyes, Daniela Melchior as Isabel Neves, Scott Eastwood as Little Nobody, Alan Ritchson as Aimes, Brie Larson as Tess Petty, Rita Moreno as Dom’s abuelita, and more, left a trail of questions in its wake, including the surprise returns of Dwayne Johnson’s Hobbs and Gal Gadot‘s Gisele, as well as the fate of John Cena’s Jakob Toretto. But don’t rule anything out just yet — crazier things have happened in the Fast & Furious universe, after all.

Fast Forever races into theatres on 17 March 2028.
