‘Tomb Raider’ Survivor Trilogy Actress Camilla Luddington Passes Baton To Alix Wilton Regan In Bittersweet Farewell

At The Game Awards 2025 (TGA 2025), acclaimed video game adventurer Lara Croft made headlines with not one, but two upcoming games: Tomb Raider: Catalyst, the franchise’s next mainline title, and Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, a reimagining of the 1996 original. News of the two titles also came with the reveal of the game’s newest actress, Alix Wilton Regan, who takes over the role of Lara Croft from Camilla Luddington.

Taking to Instagram, Luddington, who Tomb Raider fans have come to know and love for her performances in the 2013 franchise reboot and its two sequels, 2015’s Rise of the Tomb Raider and 2018’s Shadow of the Tomb Raider, shared a heartwarming post about her departure from the franchise.

“Tomb Raider fans, I thought I’d make a post since I’ve been hearing from so many of you,” she wrote. “I want to let you know that I have loved this fandom. To join the list of Lara Crofts before me was an incredible honour and she will forever be a part of me. The Survivor Trilogy was a decade of adventure I will never ever forget. I could not be prouder of what we created.”

“And as always, a new actress receives this incredible gift to step into the boots. So with that said, [Alix]… if you’re ever in need of a [bow], I know the exact spot to look for one at Croft Manor.”

Regan, on the other hand, similarly took to social media following the TGA 2025 announcements to speak on her reveal as Lara Croft, stating that it was the “absolute highlight” of her career, with her post’s caption reading, “We’re. Just. Getting. Started.”

Prior to her new role as Lara Croft, Regan has played a number of high-profile roles in the gaming space, including Aya in Assassin’s Creed Origins, Alt Cunningham in Cyberpunk 2077, Samantha Traynor in Mass Effect 3, as well as the female Inquisitor in both Dragon Age: Inquisition and Dragon Age: The Veilguard.

With Luddington’s departure, Regan certainly has massive boots to fill, and we’ll see if the British actress can shine with her own take on the iconic adventurer when Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis releases sometime in 2026 for the PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
