‘Tis the season to be jolly, and for gamers, the festive cheer takes the form of The Game Awards 2025 (TGA 2025). Like clockwork, the yearly event has returned to celebrate the best in the scene, combining an award ceremony with a jam-packed showcase featuring world premiere trailers, major updates to existing titles, new announcements, and more.
Following in the footsteps of Astro Bot as this year’s big winner is Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, which notched nine accolades out of a record-breaking 12 nominations, including the highly coveted Game of the Year, and doubled the four-award sweep previously.
Sandfall Interactive’s breakout hit wasn’t the only indie darling, however – both Hades II and Hollow Knight: Silksong emerged victorious against heavyweights in the Best Action and Best Action/Adventure categories, respectively. More notably, Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding 2 went home empty-handed alongside another crowd favourite, Split Fiction, but that doesn’t mean they fell short (in fact, they received widespread acclaim), merely that the competition for TGA 2025 was unusually and pleasantly strong.
