DC Studios is teaming up with HBO Max for a fictional true crime series, DC Crime, which will be hosted by Skyler Gisondo’s Jimmy Olsen and focus on various villains across the DC universe.

As reported by Variety, Gisondo will reprise his role in Superman as photojournalist Olsen of the Daily Planet, with the series presented as a true crime docuseries. DC Crime’s first season will focus on Gorilla Grodd, a highly intelligent primate who gains psychic powers and super strength when he comes into contact with an alien spaceship. The villain first appeared in DC Comics’ The Flash #106 in 1959, where he has since become well known for his battles with The Flash.

Gorilla Grodd has also appeared on-screen in a number of DC shows, including the CW’s 2014 live-action series The Flash, as well as animated shows like 2004’s Justice League: Unlimited and 2008’s Batman: The Brave and the Bold.

While specific plot details remain under wraps, DC Crime will be helmed by Tony Yacenda and Dan Perrault, who also serve as the series’s writers and executive producers. This won’t be the duo’s first foray into the true crime genre too, as they had previously created 2017’s American Vandal, a Netflix mockumentary series that spoofed other true crime documentaries like 2014’s Serial and 2015’s Making a Murderer.

DC heads James Gunn and Peter Safran are also attached to the project as executive producers, with DC Studios’ Galen Vaisman (Superman, Blue Beetle) overseeing production.

DC Crime is expected to premiere on HBO Max in early 2026.
