‘Silent Hill 2’ Remake’s Xbox X/S Release Imminent After ESRB Rating

Konami’s 2024 survival horror remake, Silent Hill 2, is finally on its way to Xbox consoles, according to a new rating on the American Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB).

Initially positioned as a timed exclusive for the PlayStation 5, news of a release on Xbox consoles is to be expected, and although this isn’t an official confirmation by Konami, Silent Hill 2’s updated ESRB page, which now features “Xbox Series” under its platforms, might signal that the port might be coming sooner than expected.

As for the game’s rating itself, it unsurprisingly remains at an M (Mature 17+) due to “Blood and Gore, Sexual Themes, Strong Language, and Violence”. No further information was revealed in terms of whether with game will release purely as a digital title or if it will also have a physical disc version.

Additionally, fans have been speculating on a possible release of Born from a Wish, an additional DLC chapter for the game, which was originally an Xbox exclusive when it was released for the original 1999 title, since it would be a timely addition to mark the remake’s debut on the platform.

There have been conflicting rumours on the DLC, meaning its existence remains up in the air for now. On one hand, Silent Hill 2’s lead narrative designer Grzegorz Like has seemingly teased its existence with a playful response to a fan’s query on Twitter/X, but on the flip side, Salóme Rannveig Gunnarsdóttir, who plays Maria in the game, has denied being contacted for a DLC project.

Born from a Wish might not actually come to fruition, but at least Xbox Series owners can look forward to making a return trip to the iconic foggy town when the Silent Hill 2 remake launches on the platform sometime in the future.
