5 Modern Action RPGs Best Played On A 4K Gaming Monitor In 2022

There are always different preferences when it comes to the type of video games to indulge in, with each genre bearing their own strengths. First-person shooters offer an adrenaline rush with each enemy gunned down, while real-time strategy challenges one’s strategic intelligence and offers a sense of control over the environment.

BenQ 4K Gaming Monitor

For role-playing games (RPG), the appeal lies in the combination of rich narratives and character or equipment customisation. It wouldn’t be too far of a stretch to say that few genres can match their staggering diversity comprising various categories and subcategories, such as turn-based, action, strategy, and open world. Regardless of the game and style, there’s always one available for everyone, and BenQ has got them covered with its newest 4K MOBIUZ gaming monitor.

The EX480UZ is the latest to join the company’s 4K roster, which includes the likes of the  EX3210U and EX2710U, and establishes itself as the bigger sibling to the newly-announced EX270QM with 2K resolution. Equipped with a 27-inch IPS panel, the latter ships with a 240Hz refresh rate and a one-millisecond response time, alongside other tailored features. On top of HDRi technology, which auto-optimises image colour detail and accuracy and improves contrast, there’s also the Black eQualizer feature that works to reclaim details from improperly displayed dark sections.

AMD FreeSync Premium, meanwhile, offers smooth gameplay without screen tearing or blurring – an experience that’s further enhanced through the company’s proprietary treVolo speaker. Indeed, the EX270QM ships with two 2W and a 5W subwoofer designed to deliver rich, vibrant bass, and special sound modes for different game types. Users can adjust the monitor to their preferred viewing angle within a height range of 100mm, a tilt range of -5 to 15 degrees, and a swivel range of 15 degrees as well.

The 48-inch alternative packs all of these into a bigger form factor, which boasts even more perks. It features a faster 0.1-millisecond response time and more visually-immersive OLED display are certainly a welcome bonus, especially when coupled with its two 5W speakers and upgraded 10W subwoofer.

More prominently, both models are built with eye care in mind. Like BenQ’s other monitors, the EX270QM’s 2K and EX480UZ’s 4K panels are outfitted with Brightness Intelligence Plus, which adjusts screen brightness and colour temperature for increased viewing comfort. Colour Weakness Mode has also been included here, so individuals with the common types of colour vision deficiency will be able to distinguish hues more easily.

It isn’t an experience that’s confined only to one platform, either. The two monitors are compatible with the PC, as well as the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X game consoles, so enthusiasts can indulge their love for gaming in any form. Regardless of the pick, games will be able to run at a 2160p resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, and 16:9 aspect ratio across the board.

The host of premium offerings puts the BenQ MOBIUZ monitors in a good spot to deliver an immersive, enjoyable action RPG adventure for fans. As with every genre, there are timeless classics here that have carved out a permanent spot in the scene, such as The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, The Witcher 3, Red Dead Redemption 2, Horizon Zero Dawn, and many more.

But time passes, and new stories are always laying in wait. Here are five of the best modern RPGs to experience on BenQ’s latest 4K gaming monitor, with the EX270QM serving as an alternative for those who prefer a smaller 2K monitor, or fans of shooting and racing titles.

Cyberpunk 2077 (2020)

It’s a story for the ages. Despite initial blunders at launch, Cyberpunk 2077 recently got a second wind with the release of the Edgerunners anime, to eventually become a Steam chart-topper – and it’s easy to understand its appeal. The game’s vibrant, neon-soaked visuals are a breathtaking sight to behold, while its open-world setting allows for plenty of free-roaming exploration, which plays into the graphical prowess of BenQ’s gaming monitors. The EX2710U, in particular, will shine here with its HDR feature, high quality image, and sound performance.

Its main strength, however, lies in having a well-crafted story, making it a top pick for those who enjoy a narrative-driven experience. Set in the fictional Night City, the title follows a mercenary known as V as he struggles with a mysterious cybernetic implant that threatens to overwrite his body with the personality and memories of a deceased celebrity, who can only be perceived by V. Expect many branching paths and a ton of replayability value.

Elden Ring (2022)

Elden Ring

An evolution of FromSoftware’s Dark Souls lineup, Elden Ring impresses with its worldbuilding, artistic designs, and exploration mechanics. The open landscape grants opportunities to discover and try multiple challenges, with the torrent and fast travel features bringing more ease to free roaming.

The title’s premise may sound relatively simple – repair the Elden Ring and become the new Elden Lord – but that’s far from the truth. The journey will challenge the most hardcore of adventurers, roughen up those new to the Souls scene (known to be notoriously difficult), and push the player’s patience and reflexes to the highest level. It isn’t as tough as some of FromSoftware’s other titles, but only take on the challenge if you want…and can.

God of War Ragnarok (2022)

Geek Preview 'God of War Ragnarok' Embarks On Divine Journey Towards Game Of The Year

It’s exceedingly rare to have a sequel outshine its predecessor, especially if the original was already an impressive piece of work. God of War Ragnarok has surpassed all expectations to show that the feat is entirely possible, as it transports players into a wonderfully-crafted world fuelled by breathtaking visuals, excellent action, and a compelling narrative.

All of that goodness would certainly be taken up a notch on the 48-inch monitor, with its larger form factor bringing even more immersion for PS5 owners. PC users won’t have to worry about missing out on a piece of the experience – the recent PC port for the first God of War game means they will now have the chance to join the beginning of Atreus and Kratos’ journey.

Horizon Forbidden West (2022)

Horizon Forbidden West - Beginners' Guide

There’s already plenty to marvel at in Horizon Zero Dawn, but its sequel somehow manages to make everything bigger, better and more beautiful. From the towering, menacing machines to the wide expanse of wilderness, Horizon Forbidden West builds on the best parts of its predecessor and introduces new elements to deliver yet another memorable adventure.

Exploration, in particular, is even more of a delight here, having been improved with new underwater discoveries, tools, and upgraded combat mechanics like freeform climbing. The game is currently exclusive to the PS5, but just like God of War, there’s now a PC port for its predecessor, which means more enthusiasts can get a taste of what Aloy’s story entails.

Marvel’s Spider-Man (2018; 2022 for PC)

Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered Goes All-In On Quality With PC Features

A joy in every sense of the word, Marvel’s Spider-Man breathes life into the borough of Manhattan with its liberating swinging mechanics, smooth combat, excellent characterisation, and tense action. The title remains as one of the best superhero games to date, and paved the way for an equally impressive sequel, Marvel’s Spider-Man: MIles Morales, which is set to hit PC on 19 November.

There are also a handful of easter eggs laying in wait for Marvel enthusiasts, such as the Avengers Tower, Sanctum Sanctorum, and Rand Industries. Not many titles have the honour of marrying comic book goodness and gameplay magic, but here’s one that has set a new standard.

In every RPG, each step taken counts towards a grand adventure, and it’s no different here. The BenQ EX270QM and EX480UZ gaming monitors, courtesy of their high-end performance and feature-rich functionality, equip users with the necessary tools to embark on the ultimate quest. Throw in a string of tailored features, and the RPG journey is ready to take off.

With 11 November upon us, now’s a good time to check out BenQ’s line of display devices. The brand’s 11.11 promotion is offering up to S$100 vouchers for a limited time, which means you can take your gaming experience to the next level at a more affordable price.
