The only thing more precious than a ring, is an NFT. Or at least, that’s what an NFT collector will tell you. Warner Bros. Discovery is releasing an NFT bundle for The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring.
Warner Bros. Discovery has teamed up with blockchain company Eluvio to launch The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring Web3 Movie Experience – an NFT bundle that includes the extended version of the 2001 film in 4K UHBD, over eight hours of behind-the-scenes footage and special features, photo stills, hidden AR collectibles and exclusive assets inspired by the film.
The Fellowship of the Ring NFTs will launch on 21 October on Warner Bros’ WB Movieverse venture. There will be a ‘Mystery Edition’ priced at US$30 and an ‘Epic Edition’ available for US$100. Warner Bros. Discovery and Eluvio are minting 999 copies of the ‘Epic Edition’, whilst there will be 10,000 copies of the ‘Mystery Edition’.
The ‘Epic Edition’ features navigation menus for The Shire, Rivendell, and Mines of Moria, along with location-specific key art and extra image galleries.
This marks the first time a major studio has released a movie as an NFT, but it’s unlikely to be the last as this could potentially be the start of a brand-new trend. Warner Bros. Discovery is reportedly planning to build out its NFT marketplace with other titles as seen by the ‘Coming Soon’ titles on WB Movieverse venture’s website.
To purchase one of the NFTs, users must create an Eluvio media wallet that acts as a digital vault and lets consumers stream and purchase content. The Fellowship of the Ring NFTs can be purchased via credit cards or cryptocurrency wallets and is available from 21 October at 9AM Pacific Time.
