‘Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2’ Scores Highest Concurrent Player Count For Franchise On Steam

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 stormed the battlefield with its full launch on 9 September, following a four-day early access period, and it shattered records for the Warhammer franchise.

Developed by Saber Interactive, this high-octane action game puts players in the boots of Titus of the Ultramarines as he battles against the Tyranid swarm and Chaos Marines. Arriving a whopping 13 years after its predecessor, this sequel packs a co-op campaign, Operations focused on cooperative play, and a thrilling PvP mode.

The game’s launch saw it achieve a staggering 24-hour peak concurrent player count of 225,690 on Steam, making it the highest-ever for a Warhammer game on Valve’s platform. Standing at a ‘Mostly Positive’ user review rating, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 has cemented itself as the most-played Warhammer game on Steam, eclipsing the previous record held by Total War: WARHAMMER III, which peaked at 166,754 players.

And that’s just taking into account players on Steam. Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 also launched on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S, so the true concurrent player numbers are likely even higher. As the game moves into its first weekend, the excitement is expected to soar even further.

Looking ahead, fans can anticipate a robust seasonal content model. Season 2, running from October through the end of 2024, will introduce a new Operations map, an additional enemy, a tougher difficulty level, a new weapon, and a host of other enhancements.
