Buckle up, boys! LEGO has been partnering with Ferrari for over 15 years and together, the company has brought out over 50 building sets with the famous car brand, of which three of those feature the iconic 488 GTE. Now, LEGO is releasing the LEGO Technic 42125 Ferrari 488 GTE “AF Corse #51” set that is bound to blow the mind of any race car lover.
The new LEGO 42125 Technic Ferrari 488 GTE “AF Corse #51” model comes in the car’s classic red and consists of 1,677 pieces. The model is half a meter long and is an accurate looking model that comes with tons of stickers that you have to paste yourself.
With over 60 stickers, the process of pasting them can be quite a tedious process (on top of actually building the car) but it’s worthwhile knowing that you’ll end up with a bad boy that looks as realistic as possible.
The stickers, as you would see on the actual race cars, include racing and sponsor logos and gives the technic panels a glossy and fancy look. The LEGO 42125 Technic Ferrari 488 GTE “AF Corse #51” is definitely a good looker and will look stunning beside your LEGO 42115 Technic Lamborghini Sián FKP 37.
Aesthetics aside, let’s take a look at the build of the car.
The model’s inner structure features a list of play features and functions like a replica V8 engine, functioning steering and a fully independent suspension.
The interior of the car is simple – a driver’s seat, a couple of control panels made with stickers and a steering wheel – as the main focus here is definitely the exterior.
However, the coolest function is that the front two wheels of the car rotate according to the movement of the steering wheel. In addition, the model features a solid suspension that can be activated by gently pressing down on the rear of the car.
Other simple features include doors that can be opened and closed and adjustable side mirrors. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to pop open the hood.
As mentioned, the model comes with matte red technic panels. Without stickers,LEGO 42125 Technic Ferrari 488 GTE “AF Corse #51” has some intricate details too. The panel work at the front looks legit and the uniquely shaped panels used to build the silhouette of the roof is a close replica to the actual car. In all, LEGO aces in achieving an aggressive sporty look that the Ferrari 488 GTE needs.
The distinctive nose and front wing of the car stays true to the iconic italian race car and the rear even sports the prancing horse logo. Serious race fans will appreciate the attention to detail shown in this recreation, especially since LEGO Technic designer Lars Krogh Jensen has found various ways to pay homage to the car’s engineering powers and technology.
“Ferrari is renowned for its incredible vehicles so I knew I had to push the boundaries of the Lego Technic system to do justice to the dominating race track idol. This model captures the sophisticated silhouettes of the iconic car while paying homage to its engineering powers to capture the true essence of the 488 GTE, ” said Jensen.
“The build is a great challenge for any fan who appreciates excellent design and is interested in learning more about the engineering and technology that goes into crafting such an impressive car.”
