Transformers 40th Anniversary Celebration Gets Anime Makeover From Acclaimed Studio Trigger

Studio Trigger, roll out! The animation studio behind Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and Delicious in Dungeon is bringing an anime twist to the Transformers franchise, in what seems to be a collaboration effort for the latter’s 40th anniversary.

While details remain scarce, a brief 40-second preview offers an exciting and tantalising look at the iconic Hasbro/Takara Tomy robots. The stylish flair that Studio Trigger is known for runs deep here, with the teaser also listing a release date of “coming soon”.

It’s unclear if the acclaimed Japanese studio will be involved in a larger Transformers project, but this wouldn’t be the first encounter between the two. Not only did artist and co-founder Hiroyuki Imaishi ink tributes to Optimus Prime and Bumblee earlier this year, Studio Trigger has dipped its toes into mecha territory with shows like Darling in the Franxx, and SSSS.GRIDMAN.

2024 marks the 40th anniversary of Transformers, which means fans are in for a treat. Transformers One is set to bow in theatres on 12 September, bringing the tragic relationship between Optimus and Megatron to the big screen. A Transformers and G.I. Joe crossover movie is also rolling out at Paramount, while hero shooter Overwatch 2 launched a Transformers tie-up in July. More recently, Takara Tomy announced an epic crossover featuring iconic franchises such as Transformers, Godzilla, Monster Hunter, Zoids, and Macross.
