TGA 2022: ‘Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon’ Is FromSoftware’s Next Game For 2023

It’s been a long 10 years, but the wait will soon be over for fans. Fresh off the overwhelming success of Elden Ring, FromSoftware has announced Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon during The Game Awards 2022, and it’s set for release sometime in 2023.

Little else was shown in the reveal trailer, which featured lingering cinematic shots of giant robots, fighting mechs, a burning planet, and a mech with a backpack looking out over to the horizon. The mood is very much in line with the overall look of the game, and it all looks set to be an epic adventure.

While Armored Core is one of FromSoftware’s oldest and most iconic series, the studio’s recent triumph with its Soulsborne titles would likely lead some to wonder if that same touch will be brought over to the latest entry. There’s no way to know for sure, but the official press release issued by Bandai Namco seems to suggest the possibility:

Armored Core VI Fires of Buricon will offer a game experience based on the mech game know-how FromSoftware cultivated over 25 years of developing games in the series, but now introducing groundbreaking gameplay found in the developer’s recent action games,” it reads.  “The new title will combine these elements into thrilling action that only mechas can provide. The game promises to be a unique entry in the mech action game genre.”

It’s also unclear if the title will move in a similar direction to its predecessor. Released in 2012, Armored Core V saw squads of players controlling parts of a large strategic map in a multiplayer setting. Outside of a 2023 launch window, no release date has been set for the upcoming entry.
