Straw Hat Pirates Set Sail This August In Netflix’s ‘One Piece’ Teaser Trailer

It has taken a long time, but some things might just be worth the wait. Netflix is finally ready to unleash the Straw Hat Pirates on the real world, with its live-action adaptation of One Piece finally getting its first teaser trailer at the TUDUM 2023 event.

With about 90 seconds of footage, fans will finally be able to see Iñaki Godoy’s Luffy in action, and also some glimpses of monsters and the hero’s amazing stretchy powers. The good news continues to roll in as well, with a release date set for 31 August for One Piece on Netflix. It is likely we will see plenty of adventures ahead for the crew as they embark on exploration amidst the oceans in the quest to become the next Pirate King.

Based on the popular manga and anime series by Eiichiro Oda, the One Piece adaptation by Netflix was first announced in 2020, but things went quiet for quite a while. It would take more than a year before its cast was filled out and announced, and series creator Oda also made a promise that nothing would be launched until he himself was satisfied with what he was seeing. Apparently, that means everything is going well enough for an August debut.

“Considering my expected life span, I believe this is the last chance to bring One Piece to the entire world. If we’re going to do it, I want to be able to supervise things while I’m still active. That’s why I agreed to the live-action adaptation of One Piece back in 2016,” he said about the Netflix partnership.

Iñaki Godoy stars as Monkey D. Luffy, and is joined by Mackenyu (Roronoa Zoro), Emily Rudd (Nami), Jacob Romero Gibson (Usopp) and Taz Skylar (Sanji). The rest of the cast includes McKinley Belcher III, Morgan Davies, Aidan Scott, Vincent Regan, Jeff Ward, Craig Fairbrass, Langley Kirkwood, Celeste Loots, Alexander Maniatis, Ilia Isorelýs Paulino, Chioma Umeala and Steven Ward.
