Spider-Man’s Symbiote God Knull’s Arrival Shakes Up ‘Venom: The Last Dance’

Sony Pictures Entertainment has unveiled the final trailer for Venom: The Last Dance, marking the conclusion of its Spider-Man spin-off trilogy. The trailer, spanning nearly three minutes, offers fans a first look at the live-action version of Knull, the eldritch god of darkness and creator of the alien symbiotes that have become central to the franchise.

In this final instalment, Tom Hardy returns as Eddie Brock, also known as Venom, who finds himself and his symbiote counterpart on the run. The pair are hunted by forces from their own worlds, leading them to a devastating decision that promises to conclude their journey dramatically. The trailer teases some of Venom’s new forms, including a Venom fish and a return of the Venom horse.

Knull makes a striking appearance in the Venom: The Last Dance trailer, seated ominously on a throne with taloned fingers and long white hair, echoing his depiction in the Marvel comics. This introduction occurs around the 50-second mark when Eddie Brock is told by Venom that they are being pursued by his creator. This sets the stage for a showdown with the sinister Knull, who is surrounded by a hive of symbiotes in one scene.

The excitement for Knull’s debut isn’t just among fans; comic creators Donny Cates and Ryan Stegman, who were instrumental in developing the character, expressed their surprise and hope for compensation on social media. Despite the uncertain financial benefits for creators in the comics industry, the inclusion of Knull in Venom: The Last Dance marks a significant moment for them personally.

The introduction of Knull is set against the backdrop of a broader narrative that has seen the symbiotes’ mythology expand significantly under Cates and Stegman’s tenure at Marvel. This narrative evolution culminated in the King in Black crossover event, which featured a massive showdown between Eddie Brock’s Venom and Knull, with Brock eventually taking on the mantle of King in Black.

Venom: The Last Dance is scheduled for release on 25 October, pulling forward from an initially planned November date. This final chapter promises to be a fitting end to the trilogy, blending high-stakes action with deep mythological elements. With Rhys Ifans rumoured to be playing Knull, and a cast that includes familiar faces from the trilogy, the film aims to deliver a thrilling conclusion to Venom’s journey.
