‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ On Track For Record-Breaking Opening Weekend

Ahead of perhaps the biggest movie release of the year, Sony Pictures’ web-slinging sequel, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, box office analysts have already begun their projections for the film’s opening, and Spidey is set to rake in the dough.

Sources such as Deadline estimate that the film would make roughly US$180 to US$190 million domestically over its opening weekend, and if this number sticks, it would make it the biggest domestic debut of 2026, ahead of Disney’s Toy Story 5 (US$159.6 million). Still, based on the sequel’s advance ticket sales, it won’t top the charts for the franchise and is set to come in at second place behind 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, which opened to a domestic haul of US$260.1 million.

Deadline also notes that while Spider-Man: Brand New Day won’t have the advantage of screening in IMAX halls, as those are still reserved for Christopher Nolan’s epic The Odyssey, it’s still likely to dominate in other PLF’s like Dolby Cinema.

Other projections, such as those from Box Office Pro, paint a much prettier picture, forecasting that the film would draw in a domestic opening of US$230 to US$250 million, which still falls short of its 2021 predecessor. Additionally, X/Twitter-based tracking account Global Box Office reports that Spider-Man: Brand New Day has “crossed US$60 million in domestic pre-sales and surpassed US$120 million worldwide”, placing the film in the same unprecedented territory as Marvel’s 2019 record-breaking film, Avengers: Endgame, and estimates that it could earn as much as US$300 million domestically and a whopping US$800 million globally. If the film manages that, it would make it the second biggest opening in history behind Endgame’s jaw-dropping US$1.2 billion initial global haul.

Of course, these figures are just estimates at this point, but there’s no denying that the hype surrounding the web slingers’ next adventure is real, with its previous trailers breaking all manner of viewership records. Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, Spider-Man: Brand New Day reunites Tom Holland’s web-slinger with Zendaya’s MJ and Jacob Batalon’s Ned Leeds, and sees the hero steadily losing control of his powers in a world that has forgotten about him. The film will also star Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/Hulk, Jon Bernthal as The Punisher, and Sadie Sink in a currently undisclosed role. The film will swing into theatres on 30 July 2026.
