Singapore Toy, Game & Comic Convention (STGCC) 2018: Cosplay Edition

Every year, a collective bunch of geeks and casual enthusiasts head on down to the Singapore Toy, Comic & Game Convention, or STGCC for short, to be brought together by a shared love for geekdom. The 2018 edition at Marina Bay Sands saw a sizeable crowd, all rearing to immerse themselves in an excitable atmosphere and gearing up for a day of fun – cosplayers included.

Breathing life into their favourite characters were individuals decked out in full costume glory. From the usual mainstays such as Star Wars, Overwatch, and Marvel fandoms to unexpected surprises like Toy Story and God of War, it was quite the impressive sight. Staying true to the spirit of Geek Culture, one of us even channelled her inner Harry Potter in the form of a Hufflepuff wizard:

Without further ado, here are some of the displays that caught our eye during the event:

Best. Cosplay. Ever. That perfect Negasonic Teenage Warhead smirk, the scarred Wade Wilson demeanour and those baby legs? Perfection.

Just in time for the release of Insomniac Games’ Marvel’s Spider-Man and in apt accordance to the promotion of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse are different versions of the friendly resident webslinger.  Go wild, Spideys!

Man, this Kratos cosplayer has got the physical attributes and intimidating aura of his in-game persona nailed down to the tee, which certainly caught the awed attention of event-goers. Now, if only there was the iconic shout of “Boy!”…

The Overwatch hype may have died down, but there was still plenty of cosplay to go around, and the community spirit was definitely strong when two groups of different cosplayers came together for a group photo (a great comp, if not lacking two tanks…)

Toy Story at a convention, who’d have thought! An all-around impressive effort, these individuals were inarguably a head-turner.

Of course, a cosplay event isn’t complete without some Star Wars, and the army of Boba Fetts sure is looking great!

We went begging for sweets from trick-or-treat Ana!

Here’s to more cosplay on Day 2!
