Sci-Fi Legend Sigourney Weaver Makes Star Wars Debut In ‘The Mandalorian & Grogu’

Sigourney Weaver, renowned for her roles in iconic science fiction films like Alien, Avatar, and Ghostbusters, has officially confirmed her participation in the upcoming Star Wars movie, The Mandalorian & Grogu. This announcement marks her debut in the Star Wars universe, a significant addition given her status as a sci-fi legend.

In a recent interview with Deadline, Sigourney Weaver shared her enthusiasm about joining the Star Wars cast, although details about her character remain under wraps. “I’m playing a role in The Mandalorian & Grogu. I got to meet Grogu for the first time the other day. I’m filming that before I go to London for The Tempest at the end of the year,” she commented.

Directed by Jon Favreau, The Mandalorian & Grogu is set to be the first Star Wars film to hit theaters since 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker. The film is poised to spearhead Lucasfilm’s new cinematic endeavours, which include projects led by directors Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, James Mangold, and Dave Filoni.

Despite limited information released about The Mandalorian & Grogu, new footage was unveiled at the D23 Expo by Favreau and Filoni, showing Grogu in his pod and the Mandalorian in full armour, emphasising their deep bond as a “clan of two”. The cast list currently includes Pedro Pascal returning as the titular Mandalorian Din Djarin and Steve Blum voicing Zeb Orrelios, with additional cast details scarce until now.

Weaver’s addition to The Mandalorian & Grogu is viewed as a strategic move by Lucasfilm to rejuvenate its film franchise. The Mandalorian series on Disney+ had shifted the studio’s focus primarily to television after it dramatically re-engaged fans with its fresh take on the Star Wars narrative. Now, the series aims to transition back to the big screen successfully, and with a sci-fi acting legend, no less.

The Mandalorian & Grogu opens in cinemas on 22 May 2026.
