Alien star Sigourney Weaver is eyeing another high-profile role to add to her repertoire, as the star is in talks to join Prime Video’s upcoming live-action Tomb Raider series.

As reported by Deadline, Weaver is gearing up to appear on-screen alongside Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner’s Lara Croft, although the deal is still ongoing and there is no confirmation on which character the 76-year-old will play.
If the deal goes through, this will add another high-profile project to Weaver’s already stacked career, with the star perhaps best known for her appearances in Ridley Scott’s 1979 sci-fi horror classic Alien and James Cameron’s Avatar franchise. Weaver is no stranger to the action film genre, with roles in the Ghostbusters franchise, 2015’s Chappie and 1999’s Galaxy Quest, but the Tomb Raider series will offer something fresh as her first gaming adaptation role.
Apart from Tomb Raider, Weaver’s upcoming roles include Avatar: Fire and Ash, the third film in James Cameron’s sci-fi epic and Jon Favreau’s Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu, Din Djarin’s first feature movie following the highly successful Disney+ series.

Prime Video’s Tomb Raider series will be helmed by Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag), who serves as its writer and executive producer alongside Chad Hodge, with Jonathan Van Tulleken (Shōgun) directing. Crystal Dynamics, the developers behind the Tomb Raider game series since 2006’s Tomb Raider: Legend, will also produce the series alongside Story Kitchen and Amazon MGM, and although a firm release window hasn’t been set, the show’s production is set to begin on 19 January 2026.
