‘Shin Kamen Rider’ Hits Prime Video Globally 1 Day After Opening In Singapore

Hot on the heels of its theatrical release announcement in Singapore, Shin Kamen Rider is now set to air on Prime Video globally this July. The live-action superhero flick will be available on Amazon’s streamer in 200 countries and regions starting 21 July 2023, a day after it opens in local cinemas.

While the official website has yet to provide a list of countries, Singapore is confirmed to be one of them. The non-theatrical option offers an alternative for fans, but those who want to enjoy a more cinematic experience should opt for the special fan screening on 8 July or the general screening from 20 July.

Shin Kamen Rider premiered in Japan on 17 March, and ranked second on the box office in its opening weekend. The movie earned 542 million yen in its first three days, before raking in a cumulative total of 2.1 billion yen, making it the first entry in the Kamen Rider franchise to surpass the two billion mark, and the highest-grossing film in its history.

Sousuke Ikematsu (Death Note: Light Up the New World) stars as Takeshi Hongo aka Kamen Rider in the movie, while Minami Hamabe (Ajinanohana: The Flower We Saw That Day) plays Ruriko Midorikawa. Hideaki Anno, best known for his work on the Evangelion Neon Genesis franchise, is back at the helm, picking up from his previous directing efforts for Shin Godzilla and Shin Ultraman, which alongside Evangelion: 3.0 + 1.0 Thrice Upon a Time, are all part of the Shin Japan Heroes Multiverse.

The movie is the third reboot of a tokusatsu series — a Japanese term for live-action films or television programmes that make use of practical special effects — to be adapted by Anno, who was responsible for directing, writing, and producing.
