Wireless earbuds are all the hype now, and with good reason. Between cordless convenience, lightweight portability, and seamless connectivity, they have become a part of the routine life, accompanying users in their commuting and workout sessions to leisure downtime. Samsung, having hopped on the trend, currently boasts a number of Galaxy Buds members under its belt, such as the Plus and Live iterations. With the arrival of the Samsung Unpacked event, the tech giant will be welcome another new addition to the family: the Galaxy Buds Pro.
The earbuds are set to usher in a series of upgrades and fresh features, including intelligent active noise cancellation (ANC), an 18-hour battery life, the Auto Switch function, and more. Where its predecessors were subjected to criticism about the lack of quality noise cancellation, the Galaxy Buds Pro ships with smart ANC technology and the Ambient Sound Mode that allow users to adjust and personalise their audio profile according to their needs. For this, four different volume levels – Low, Mid, High, and Extra High – are available.
These two features also work together to automatically optimise one’s audio experience without them having to lift a finger. When conversation is detected, the Galaxy Buds Pro reduces the listening volume and switches between ANC and Ambient Sound on its own to facilitate interaction.
A common concern about wireless devices is their battery life, and fortunately for prospective users, Samsung’s latest earbuds have been upgraded to offer up to 18 hours of playback time with ANC, and 28 hours without. Water resistance has been increased to the IPX7 standard as well, which grants protection against fresh water immersion for 30 minutes at a depth of up to one metre.
With the Galaxy Buds Pro, the pairing process has been made easier and more efficient. Courtesy of the Auto Switch feature, the earbuds can pair easily with, and toggle between other Galaxy devices based on one’s usage. Once connected, users will be able to control everything with a tap of a fingertip: tap once to play and pause audio, double tap to skip to the next song, and answer or end calls, and triple tap to replay the previous music track.
For enhanced audio input and output, the device offers wider-ranging sound with larger two-way speakers (an 11mm woofer and 6.5mm tweeter) and a three-microphone setup for reduced background noise and clearer phone calls.
Other features of the earbuds include 360-degree audio with Dolby Head Tracking technology, the multi-mic recording functionality, improved comfort, and Bixby support.
The Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro will come in the colours of Phantom Violet, Phantom Black, and Phantom Silver. They will be available on 29 January 2021 for S$308.
