While some weaknesses are quite obvious, such as Fire being strong against Grass, it is not always easy to refer to the in-game guide to check out all the pros and cons of a particular type. Instead of using the tutorial, you can refer to the entire Pokémon type chart here:
Green boxes represent super effective double damage, red for not very effective half damage, and grey boxes for no damage whatsoever. As for the empty boxes, attacks do regular damage. For defending, the same applies as well.
It is also important to take note of Pokémon that are dual types. If they are defending against a move that happens to be super effective to both types, that could result in quadruple damage. Conversely, being resistant to an attack with both types will further reduce damage taken.
There is also the attack bonus for the same types, so if you have a Water Pokémon using a Water move, the damage is increased by a further 50%.
