Riddle us this — what happens when two immortal beings are pitted against each other? As Charlize Theron and her team of undying mercenaries gear up for a long-awaited return in The Old Guard 2, Netflix has dropped a quick look at the action to come, culminating in a fierce confrontation with a mysterious foe: Discord, “the first of the immortals”, played by Kill Bill‘s Uma Thurman.
“She is the first of the immortals,” warns Henry Golding’s character in the trailer. “She knows your histories, your relationships. I am scared of what she is capable of.” Theron then asks, “Do you think she knows that I’ve lost my immortality?”
Directed by Victoria Mahoney (Yellow to the Sky), who took over the reins from Gina Prince-Bythewood, the sequel follows Andromache of Scythia, aka Andy, as she comes to terms with her newfound mortality while grappling with “a mysterious threat that could jeopardise everything she’s worked towards for thousands of years.”
Both Thurman and Golding are new additions to the cast, joining returnees Theron, who also serves as producer, KiKi Layne, Marwan Kenzari, Luca Marinelli, Matthias Schoenaerts, and Chiwetel Ejiofor back in their original roles. Like its predecessor, the sequel movie is based on the graphic novel series of the same name written by Greg Rucka and illustrated by Leandro Fernandez.

The Old Guard 2 was originally planned for release earlier than 2025, but it will now hit Netflix on 2 July. It teases higher stakes at play, with Theron saying previously:
“There’s something for everyone in this movie: Fans who loved the first film, fans who love the original graphic novels — and brand-new fans who are looking for insane action, grounded and relatable characters, gorgeous locations, and a global cast of superstars.”
