KPop Demon Hunters is on track to become one of Netflix’s most prized IPs, as the studio has ambitious plans for the franchise to expand its universe with sequels, a live-action remake and even a stage musical.

According to The Wrap, the Hunter/x trio of Rumi, Mira, and Zoey has a busy future ahead of them, as Netflix is already referring to the IP as its Frozen or Disney Princesses franchise, one that it plans to expand across different mediums and channels.
“[KPop Demon Hunters was] a phenomenal success out of the gate… and the fact that people are in love with this film and in love with the music from this film, that will keep it going for a long time,” said Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos during an earnings call earlier in the month, “And now the next beat is, where does it go from here?”
According to The Wrap’s sources, a pair of sequels is in the works, which will round out a full-on film trilogy, alongside a live-action remake a la Netflix’s previous efforts with Avatar: The Last Airbender and One Piece, a stage musical to bring the titles smash hits like “Golden”, “How It’s Done” and “Takedown” to life on a real-world stage, and even a a short film being discussed to serve as “bridge content” between the mainline features.

Although no plans are set in stone for now, it’s clear that Netflix is far from done with KPop Demon Hunters, and rightfully so, considering have much of an impact the show has had since its release on 20 June, rising to become the platform’s most-watched original animated film of all time.
For those somehow unfamiliar with the film’s plot by now, its story centres on a fictional K-pop girl group, HUNTR/X, who lead double lives as demon hunters, and face off against a rival boy band called Saja Boys, whose members are secretly demons. Arden Cho (Teen Wolf), May Hong (High Maintenance), and Ji-young Yoo (Moxie) lead the voice cast as vocalist and overall leader Rumi, visual-slash-main-dancer Mira, and rapper Zoey, respectively.
