N64’s ‘GoldenEye 007′ Lands On Nintendo Switch 27 Jan, With Modern Rerelease On Xbox Game Pass

It won’t be long before fans of GoldenEye 007 can relive their N64 gaming days. The fan favourite game will finally arrive on Nintendo Switch Online’s expansion pass and Xbox Game Pass on 27 January, with some differences between the two versions.

The long-anticipated release date is a welcome confirmation of when players can jump back into the role of James Bond in both single-player and multiplayer mode. Prior to this, its return was announced during the Nintendo Direct stream in September last year, but no date was specified then.

There are some prerequisites to play the first-person shooter on the Switch, though. While Xbox Game Pass subscribers will be able to download GoldenEye 007 for no additional cost, Switch users will need both Nintendo Switch Online and its Expansion Pass, which adds the N64 digital library. The extra cost should be worth it for fans of the original title, because online multiplayer is only available in this version — the first time this feature has been officially available for the 26-year-old title.

The Xbox version, in comparison, will be a remaster edition that includes dual analogue stick support, new achievements, 4K resolution, and “a consistent refresh rate.” There’s also an option for four-player split-screen support.

The return of the N64 classic has been years in the making, and is sure to be a hyped affair. GoldenEye 007 is, after all, considered as one of the greatest video games of all time, with Nintendo giving an overview of its version below:

“Enter a world of espionage as Bond in GoldenEye 007. Your covert operation to stop the GoldenEye weapon satellite spans the globe—you’ll infiltrate underground bases, charge through a military train and slink around the depths of a jungle. Along the way, M will brief you on your objectives and Q Branch will support your efforts with an array of gadgets, but the ultimate success of this mission is yours alone. Save the day, then go for the gold in spy-vs-spy action locally or online in the four-player multiplayer mode and enjoy round after round of first-person competitive action.
