Lindsay Lohan And Jamie Lee Curtis Swap Bodies After 22 Years In ‘Freakier Friday’ Trailer

Time has passed, but chaos finds a way to strike again. Freakier Friday is bringing Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis back to the world of body-swapping mayhem, this time with an even bigger four-way twist.

The legacy sequel’s trailer kicks off with a familiar setting: Tess and Anna stepping into a fortune teller’s shop, where a palm reader played by Vanessa Bayer immediately senses something unusual. Their life lines, she says, have crossed before, hinting at the magical mishap they endured over two decades ago. This time, the mix-up is even messier. A sudden, unexpected four-way swap throws not only Tess and Anna into new bodies but also Anna’s teenage daughter Harper (Julia Butters) and her boyfriend’s daughter Lily (Sophia Hammons), doubling the generational confusion and, of course, the comedic potential.

Much of the humour comes from the fish-out-of-water antics that made Freaky Friday such a beloved classic. The trailer teases some standout moments, including the teenagers trapped in the bodies of adults flying through the air in a car, a nod to both the 2003 classic and the Jodie Foster-led 1976 version.

Music plays a key role in setting the film’s tone, with Chappell Roan’s HOT TO GO! blaring over the trailer, reinforcing the story’s modern, high-energy approach. Other key moments tease what Anna has been up to since fans last saw her. One scene shows her picking up a guitar, a direct callback to her old band, Pink Slip. Whether she has pursued music as a career or simply as a passion remains unclear, but the connection to her rebellious teenage years remains strong.

Another major revelation comes in the form of Chad Michael Murray’s long-awaited return as Jake. Once the dreamy love interest in Freaky Friday, his surprise appearance suggests that he still plays a role in Anna’s life, even though she is now engaged to Eric (Manny Jacinto). How his return affects Anna’s relationship, as well as the dynamic of her blended family, is something the movie is sure to explore.

Disney’s official synopsis reads, “The story picks up years after Tess (Curtis) and Anna (Lohan) endured an identity crisis. Anna now has a daughter of her own and a soon-to-be stepdaughter. As they navigate the myriad challenges that come when two families merge, Tess and Anna discover that lightning might indeed strike twice.”

Freakier Friday opens in cinemas on 8 August.
