‘Joker’ Sequel Title Reveal, Director Todd Philips Shows Joaquin Phoneix Reading Script

As we all know in the entertainment industry, if the studios land on a hit, there’s bound to be a sequel. The latest show to receive this treatment would be a follow-up to 2019’s critically acclaimed Joker.

Officially unveiled by Todd Philips who wrote and directed the original, the upcoming sequel will be titled Joker: Folie à Deux.

Included in the reveal is a shot of Joaquin Phoenix, who has the script in hand. At this point in time, we do hope that Phoenix will return as the title character as he delivered an Oscar-winning performance, as the movie swept the 2020 Oscars overall.

Folie à Deux is defined as “an identical or similar mental disorder affecting two or more individuals, usually the members of a close family”. While we could easily establish this as the relationship between pairings such as Batman and Harley Quinn it might not be as straightforward as it seems.

While we’re excited that the Joker sequel is rolling out, what does this mean for a greater cohesive DC cinematic universe? On one hand, we have Barry Keoghan waiting in the wings, and we have Phoenix who has claimed the role for himself.

Multiverse play in the works then?
