Joe Goldberg’s past is about to say “Hello, you” in the teaser for You Season 5, as his murderous history threatens to catch up with him in New York City once and for all.
Penn Badgley reprises his role as the obsessive and charming Joe, returning to where it all began—New York City. The fifth and final season teases a full-circle journey for Joe, but it appears his relentless pursuit of a “happily ever after” will be thwarted by his dark past and insatiable desires.
In the teaser trailer, Joe, clean-shaven and seemingly reflective, walks through New York streets and revisits Mooney’s Rare & Used Books, a significant location from the first season. As he moves through familiar spaces, he recalls past encounters and relationships, highlighting the destructive impact he’s had on the lives of others.
Season 4 left Joe in a precarious position after his misadventures in London, where he adopted the guise of a college professor. Amid the chaos he inflicted on his new acquaintances, Joe found an unlikely partner in Kate Lockwood (Charlotte Ritchie), a billionaire who accepted his darkest secrets and helped conceal his crimes. Armed with a fresh identity and Kate’s influence, Joe returns to the Big Apple with renewed determination. However, his new alliances and lingering connections to his past hint at the dangers that await him.

The trailer also showcases Joe’s signature internal monologue, now directed at the glass cage he uses to imprison his victims. This chilling element underscores his inability to escape the consequences of his actions, even as he reminisces about former flames and adversaries, including Guinevere Beck (Elizabeth Lail), Love Quinn (Victoria Pedretti), and Marienne Bellamy (Tati Gabrielle).
Season 5 features a mix of returning and new cast members, including Charlotte Ritchie, Madeline Brewer, Anna Camp, and Griffin Matthews. While details about the plot remain sparse, the teaser hints at a narrative deeply rooted in nostalgia and confrontation. Joe’s past decisions and their ripple effects will come to the forefront as he navigates familiar territory. With old and new enemies potentially closing in, New York becomes the ultimate stage for his reckoning.
