Travelling with All Nippon Airways (ANA) is about to get a little more fun for Pokémon fans. The Japanese airlines has partnered with the pop culture juggernaut to create a themed in-flight safety video featuring popular critters like Pikachu and Jigglypuff, spicing up a traditionally mundane and repetitive affair.
Available in both English and Japanese with a sign language interpreter, it’s equal parts adorable and informative, coming in especially useful for the younger ones. All the guidance in the five-minute video is pretty standard, from buckling up to emergency procedures and prohibited behaviour. The difference is that Pokémon across multiple generations are here to lend their assistance, with Farfetch’d demonstrating how to load up the overhead baggage bin by placing a giant leek in it. Elsewhere, Pikachu and Pichu appear to help a flight attendant. while Mr. Mime acts out the process of wearing oxygen masks. Cute.
Other fan favourites are incorporated in creative ways, such as Greedent accidentally obstructing an aisle with the bundle of berries that it dropped, and Jigglypuff reprimanding a passenger for vaping on the plane. Rowlet, Machoke, and Lucario show up to highlight the proper way to fasten a seatbelt, with Ludicolo, Rotom, Emolga, and Floragato also getting their share of screen time.
The ANA Pokémon-themed safety video will be played aboard the Pikachu Jet NH and Eevee Jet NH starting 15 August. These two aircraft are part of the company’s collaboration with The Pokémon Company, donning themed décor on the inside and outside. Where the former design spotlights Latias, Latios, Rayquaza, Rowlet, Togekiss, and Vivillion, the Eevee iteration celebrates Pikachu and the entire Eeveelution chain: Eevee, Espeon, Flareon, Glaceon, Jolteon, Leafeon, Sylveon, Umbreon, and Vaporeon. The seats, paper cups, and napkins in both vessels feature Pikachu (naturally).
