Huawei Mate Xs 2 Foldable Smartphone Goes Lighter, Thinner, And Is Coming This June

Lightweight devices are always welcome, especially if they are often accompanied by on-the-go usage. The Huawei Mate Xs 2 is the latest member to tick all the checkboxes for portable convenience, as it makes its mark as the lightest and thinnest addition to the brand’s line of foldable smartphones.

Tipping the scales at just 255g, the 5.4mm-thin flagship device boasts the first 3D Fibreglass design, which offers a fusion of colour aesthetics and textures. Its 7.8-inch OLED screen features a double-rotating Falcon Wing Hinge set-up that not only stretches displayed content, but also irons out any potential bumps or ridges for maximum flatness. When folded, it transforms into a narrower 6.5-inch cut for easier one-handed use.

The Mate Xs 2 is set to offer a 2,480 x 2,200 resolution, a refresh rate of 120Hz, and an anti-reflective Nano Optical layer. It will be powered by Qualcomm’s last-gen Snapdragon 888 chipset — paired with 8GB of RAM and 512GB of storage — with no 5G connectivity available.

The triple camera system, meanwhile, comprises a 50MP True-Chroma main shooter with f/1.8 aperture, a 13MP Ultra-wide with f/2.2, and an 8MP 3x telephoto with f/2.4. A 10MP front-facing snapper has also been included, but the new Mirror Smart Shooting mode has made it possible to take high-resolution selfies just with the main rear camera alone.

Other notable features include a 4,600mAh battery that can supposedly reach 90 percent charge within 30 minutes, a shock-absorbent, industry-first composite screen, and the Floating Window Swipe Gesture function, which lets users control and switch between multiple windows at the same time.

The Huawei Mate Xs 2 will be launching in June 2022 at a retail price of €1,999 (US$2,094 / S$2,911) with three finishes in tow: Black, White, and Violet. Local pricing has yet to be announced, but if smartphones aren’t quite your cup of tea, there are four new fitness wearables by Huawei to check out on the side.
