“I had an epiphany, and it’s basically a movie that required a lot of growth and a lot of tools that I couldn’t have done 10 years ago,” del Toro explained about his adaptation.

“Now I’m brave or crazy enough or something, and we’re gonna tackle it. It’s Oscar Isaac, Andrew Garfield, Christoph Waltz, Mia Goth, and we’re working on it.”

del Toro’s Frankenstein adaptation will follow the original 19th-century novel and will not be the director’s first time working with Waltz. The pair previously worked together for del Toro’s adaptation of Pinocchio.

Frankenstein

Frankenstein has been in the making for years. The director planned a version of the story back in 2010 and has been wanting to do a Frankenstein movie for a very long time now.

“I’m doing Frankenstein,” said del Toro. “We’re working on it. We start shooting in February, and it’s a movie I have been wanting to do for 50 years since I saw the first Frankenstein.”

No release date has been attached to the project, but with any del Toro movie, it is bound to be dark, whimsical and grounded.
