Geek Review: Jisulife Neck Fan Pro & Handheld Fan Pro1S

The heat and dry heat isn’t something anyone can ever get used to, and at a time when there are gadgets for a single purpose, maybe we don’t have to. A recent trend has folks attach portable fans to a neck brace, to generate a gentle breeze and that has evolved, to a neck fan that looks like a dog collar, but one that sends a steady stream of cool air upwards and the Jisulife Neck Fan Pro has easily become an indispensable gadget that we’ve tested out across Asia, from our recent travels to Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, China, Indonesia, and of course Singapore.

Jisulife Neck Fan

Weighing just 322g, the device is light enough not to cause any neck strain or fatigue after prolonged use. It also helps that it has a pair of soft silicone pads which helps to keep a decent breathing distance between the back of the neck and the device. The overall aesthetics of the neck fan is sleek and minimalistic, and definitely one of the better looking neck fans on the market. Its width is adjustable, and can open up to 12cm at its widest, which means that if your neck is wider than 12cm, you’re out of luck. Once it has rested snugly around your neck, you can readjust the device for a more secure fit.

The LED display on the left side of the neck fan shows the remaining battery life for 4 seconds after powering on, before switching to display the fan speed. Fan speeds can be adjusted easily with the knob on the right side of the neck fan, from 1 to 100. For the most part, the fans run relatively quietly, which also depends on the environment you are currently in. Obviously, at 100 speed, the noise level from the fans can be pretty loud for the user and the people standing around. The wind generated from the four air duct outlets on the top of the neck fan essentially cools the entire back area of the neck, up to the back of the ears, and even at its fullest setting. don’t expect air to reach the face –  at most, parts of each cheek will receive a gentle breeze if you were to tilt your head to the left or right. One thing to note though, users with long hair reaching their shoulders will probably find it ineffective for the most part, since most of the wind will be blocked.

According to Jisulife, the 5,000 mAh battery can last up to 16 hours under average usage but that’s not easy to interpret, so we stress tested it at the maximum setting and it lasted 3 hours, which means you should be able to use it for a full day of outdoor activities at a decent setting, depending on the outdoor weather. The neck fan can be easily charged via the USB-C port, and typically charges to full within an hour.

Apart from using the Neck Fan Pro outdoors, it’s actually perfect for home use too, especially when doing housework. Wearing it while vacuuming or mopping around the house is a godsend. Can’t stand the noise from the fans? Just pop on some earbuds and run some tunes.

Having used the Neck Fan extensively for a couple of months, it has definitely served its purpose for daily commutes and travels. However, when used outdoors under the blazing sun at 34°C, it does prove to be less effective, even at the maximum speed setting but then again, few things can tolerate the hot weather across Asia.

On really hot days when the Neck Fan alone just doesn’t cut it, you will need the Jisulife Handheld Fan Pro1S portable fan. Weighing 256g, the handheld fan is solidly built with a metal exterior, with a design aesthetic reminiscent of a Dyson hair dryer. Similar to the neck fan, it has wind speeds from 1 to 100 via a knob control. The maximum fan speed for the handheld is pretty amazing too, reaching up to 9 m/s (15,000 RPM).

Its 3,600 mAh battery can last up to 4hrs running at maximum speed, which is rather substantial, especially when the wind can be felt up to two metres away. The power level and fan speed is displayed on a sleek LED located in the middle of the fan. Charging the device is via a USB-C port and takes up to about 1.5 hours to charge it to full.

At the end of the day, both the Jisulife Neck Fan Pro and Handheld Fan Pro1S are the perfect pairing to keep you cool on hot days. However, both can run pretty loud when running at maximum speed, especially the handheld fan. But this is to be expected, when the wind strength of the handheld can rival even some floor-standing fans.

The Jisulife Neck Fan Pro comes in three colours – silver, blue and pink – and starts at US$80 on Amazon. The Jisulife Handheld Fan Pro1S is available in six colours – grey, brown, white, pink, blue and green – and starts at US$65 on Amazon. Or, if you live in Singapore, the Jisulife Official Shop on Shopee.sg also carries both products.
