FromSoftware’s Hidetaka Miyazaki Says There’s Interest In ‘Elden Ring’ Film

There’s no shortage of video game to film adaptations in recent years, so it wouldn’t really be surprising if Elden Ring were to get the same treatment. While there are currently no plans to do so, FromSoftware president Hidetaka Miyazaki has expressed interest in making the leap to the big screen. There’s the catch, however — he doesn’t believe that he or the studio will be able to make it work.

“I don’t see any reason to deny another interpretation or adaptation of Elden Ring, [like] a movie for example,” the game director told The Guardian. “But I don’t think myself, or FromSoftware, have the knowledge or ability to produce something in a different medium. So that’s where a very strong partner would come into play.”

“We’d have to build a lot of trust and agreement on whatever it is we’re trying to achieve, but there’s interest, for sure,” added Miyazaki.

If done well, an Elden Ring film could prove an effective way to flesh out the many stories set in The Lands Between, especially with the recent release of Shadow of the Erdtree. The highly-anticipated expansion is now live, opening its door to the new, unexplored region of the Land of Shadow. It will be the game’s only DLC, with the possibility of a full sequel up in the air.

Despite receiving mixed reception for the spike in its difficulty level, Shadow of the Erdtree has overtaken The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine as the highest-rated expansion of all time. This comes after the beloved RPG surpassed 25 million units sold worldwide, reinforcing its status as one of the best releases of the modern era.
