Ahead of Beerus’ return to the screen (again), Dragon Ball Super: Beerus is looking to ramp up the excitement to level 9000. The “Super Surge” trailer for the anime showcases more of its enhanced visuals, alongside previews of its theme songs and a premiere date of 11 October.
Opening with a Kamehameha, the clip intercuts scenes of Goku and Beerus locked in a high-octane showdown, and teases the appearance of fan-favourite character Hit. MEGATERA·ZERO performs the opening theme song “Onogami”, while “Kan Peki No Peki” by VK Blanka serves as the ending song.
“Several years have passed since the fierce battle against Majin Buu, and Earth has finally regained a brief moment of peace. At the same time, Beerus, the God of Destruction, awakens from his long, deep sleep. Even Kai and Supreme Kai, aware of Beerus’s overwhelming power to destroy entire planets, watch his awakening with great fear…,” reads the official description. “Meanwhile, Beerus hears rumours of a Saiyan who defeated Frieza—and suddenly appears before Goku. Targeted by Beerus, the strongest being in the universe, Earth is in grave danger. Thus begins an Earth-shattering cosmic battle between the God of Destruction and Goku and his allies—a conflict that will shake the entire universe.”
If the premise is familiar, that’s because Dragon Ball Super: Beerus is a remaster of 2015’s Dragon Ball Super featuring a reconstructed story, brand-new animation cuts, revised sequences, and re-rendered original footage. Fans can also expect an overhauled score and audio design, as well as re-recorded voice lines, with Kōichi Yamadera reprising his role as Beerus in the Japanese dub.
The project had been in development for several years and is set to deliver a more faithful representation of creator Akira Toriyama’s original work. The accompanying key visual may be seen below:
Spanning two seasons and 131 episodes, the original Dragon Ball Super follows the God of Destruction Beerus awakening from a prolonged sleep and targeting Earth after hearing about a Saiyan who defeated Frieza, kick-starting an epic battle with Goku and his allies. The new series marks Beerus’ third official reveal, following the 2013 animated film Battle of Gods and Dragon Ball Super. It releases in Japan on 11 October, but the pilot episode will first be screened at New York Comic-Con on 8 October.
